Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein, published in 1818, was the first science fiction story ever.

Mary was only 20 years old when she wrote this classic novel, but her prose and wise themes were actually the product of a chaotic and adventurous life.

In addition to Frankenstein's novel, which warned against the harsh society's treatment of outcasts on its margins, Mary also wrote a number of other novels, including "The Last Man," a much earlier apocalyptic work of his time, in which she addressed the issue of environmental disaster, a major departure from the romantic ideas of its time.
